Craig Zetterberg was a beloved teacher and Water Polo coach at Nevada Union High School.   Tragically, he died suddenly in March 2014 while mountain biking.

Adaptive Physical Education Teacher, Amy Giles, wanted to organize a triathlon event at Nevada Union and had constructed a course largely on the school campus.   Athletic Director Jeff Dellis suggested that it would be a great idea to name this event in memory of Zett.  Thus the first Zett’s Tri was successfully run  on May 31, 2015 with about 80 participants.   As Amy is also a coach of the NU Nordic Ski Team, the Nordic athletes provided volunteers and did the timing for the race.   The race has evolved into an annual fund raiser event for The Zetterberg Scholarship Fund and the Nordic Ski Team

This event has been running for 25 years.  It is an all woman's triathlon, and many of the club members participated as their first triathlon.  the even benefits the Barbara Schmidt Millar Memorial fund at the Woman's Imaging Center of Sierra Nevada Hospital.  In addition, a scholarship has been established in her honor which is awarded to female high school graduates in Nevada County pursuing an education in the healthcare profession.
